Budapest City Breaks

Posted in Budapest

budapest city breakBudapest only officially came into existence in 1873, when historic hilltop Buda merged with its neighbour Pest creating a city that bridged the Danube.  There are a number of sites worthy of a visit in this historic city but some not to be missed include the view from Buda looking down on Pest, the chain bridge and St Stephen's Cathedral.

Budapest hosts a number of music festivals thorughout the summer which means the nightlife is busier during the summer months.

The food and wine is very good in Budapest.  Visit the house of HUngarian wine where for £7.00 you get a glass and a map and the chance to try 70 different wines.

Hungary is most famous for it's dessert wine known as Tokaj.

As for restaurants, most have a comprehensive menu that provides value for money.  Visit the Belcanto restaurant where the waiters sing while they serve!

Nightlife in Budapest is laid back so don't expect to be able to party all night.  However the laid back atmosphere of the cafes and bars is relaxing and the city looks fantasic illuminated at night.

Summer, Autumn and Spring are all fabulous times to visit this amazing city which is actually one of the sunniest cities in Europe.  Budapest can reach 35 degrees celcius on the summer so be prepared for the heat during this time. There are a number of swimming pools around the city where you can go and cool down and relax away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.
