Posted in Copenhagen

Copenhagen is becoming a popular choice for a city break. Its close proximity to the UK and the fact that it is relatively easy to get here make it a great choice for a short break.

This is a city which is very rich in stunning architecture. The seventeenth century town houses which line the quay here are just the tip of the iceberg. In fact it is the architecture which draws in most of the tourists. The sympathetically done more modern extensions to the buildings along the main pedestrian street do noting but add to the charm of the place.

This is a vibrant city where café culture is rife and there are ample opportunities of shopping. There are several large department stores, designer boutiques and of course wonderful Danish furniture stores.

The city also oozes culture and there are a wide selection of museums and galleries to visit. In fact there are over 50 museums to choose from each with its own story to tell.

The Statens Museum for Kunst is Denmark's largest museum on art and has scope stretching from medieval painting to modern installations and beyond. This place is so popular that the exhibition space has doubled in recent years .

The emphasis is still very much on what is though to be the two golden ages for art here, 17th century and 19th century painting.

The Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek museum is home to a vast collection of  Rodin sculptures. There are over thirty works here by the French sculptor making this it the most important Rodin collection outside of France. This is a must for sculpture fans.

Nightlife in Copenhagen is varied and typical of many European cities. There are numerous restaurants and cafes to choose from. This being a major city and a popular tourist attraction you can as you would expect experience food from many different cultures here. Whether you are looking for rich traditional French food or more of an Asian flavour you can find it here.

There are also many places serving up traditional Danish specialities which include. Meatballs served with cabbage in white sauce, many pork dishes and Kransekage which is a special Danish cake made from marzipan.

Nightlife here is laid back but there are several lively bars and cafes to be found and also a few clubs. Rust is one of the longest running clubs here and draws in a young trendy crowd while jazz fans can head to Copenhagen Jazz house.
