Venice City Breaks

Posted in Venice

venice city breaksVenice is an extremely romantic city and one which is definitely recommended for a Valentine's day getaway or other special occasion. And it needn't cost a fortune with many online sites offering some great deals at this time of year.

You just can't go to Venice and not take a trip on on of their famous Gondolas. A Gondola ride on the canal is an amazing experience and not too expensive, particulary if it is included in one of the many organised tours available around Venice.

St Marc's Square is also a must see. Surrounded by fabulous architecture and history you can sit and have a coffee in St Marc's Square and watch the world go by. However, drinks are very expensive in this area and after you have experienced sitting in St Marc's Square, you might prefer to explore outside the centre for better value italian cuisine and drinks.

We would also recommend a visit to Venice's Ghetto, the oldest Ghetto in Europe. It has a Jewish Musuam, a Kosher restaurant and five Synagogues. Unlike other european cities Venice lies in the middle of a fantasic Lagoon and a trip round the Lagoon Islands by boat is an enjoyable way to see Venice from a different angle.

Due to noise restrictions, nightlife in Venice may appear tame compared to other Eurpean cities but don't let that deter you. There is still something for everyone if you know where to look, from tradtional concert halls to lively bars in the centre.

Much of the nighlife is centred around St Mark's Square in early evening. For a more lively scene head for Campo Santa Margherita which has some trendy cafes and bars. We would recommend a visit to Cafe Chioggia at midnight where you can watch the clock strike the hour on the clock tower, while a live band plays varied music from Jazz to Pop.

For good restaurants, head away from St Mark's Square, back over the bridge to where the boats come in. There are many waterfront restaurants offering good food at a reasonable price, and you can enjoy your meal outside, looking out over the water and watching passers by.

Venice can get very hot during the peak summer months. May and September are perfect times to visit this city when the temperatures are mild and the city is not too over-crowded.
